Our Client is in need of an Acquisition Editor for Reference, Trade and Upper Level/Grad Level textbooks for Chemistry and related titles.   While Chemistry experience is a big plus, this hiring manager would also consider a person with other hard sciences acquisitions experience as well.

This person will:

• Develop editorial plans including detailed financial analysis of their list
• Identify new viable markets for new list growth and expansion
• Acquire roughly 65% reference books and 35% grad level text books
• Be able to acquire 25 - 30 new books per year
• Be responsible for managing/revising a backlist of 350+ titles
• Be involved in developing promotional plans in coordination with marketing team
• Develop/manage strategic relationships with associations, companies and universities
• Have an interest in chemistry, hard sciences and related areas
• Conduct competitive research and analysis on similar industry titles
• Attend various industry conferences + some campus visits
• Have fairly limited travel of roughly 20%

Qualifications needed are:

• College degree (a relevant discipline is a plus but not required)
• Relevant editorial experience (4+ years), ideally in chemistry/hard sciences
• Proven ability to Multi-Task and be highly organized
• Strong written and verbal communication skills will be required
• Must have experience with Excel, MS Word, Power Point etc.
