This person will:

• Report directly to an international based Sr. Publisher
• Acquire undergrad, upper level, grad level texts in Chemistry and related areas
• Have previous Acquisitions experience, ideally Chemistry or Hard Sciences
• Be tasked with acquiring $3 Million in new signings (roughly 10 - 20 books)
• Be familiar with developing and maintaining a solid list of potential author contacts
• Be actively involved in creating proposals, contract negotiation and project management
• Need to travel up to 20% for conferences and campus visits
• Be creative, innovative, organized, results oriented individual
• Coordinate with marketing, production, sales, business development and finance dept's
• Conduct strategic planning and competitive research/analysis on competitive products
• Work with colleagues regarding product development and marketing
• Be involved in various industry conferences as well as campus visits
• Have an assistant editor assisting them in their AE role

Qualifications needed are:

• College degree - ideally in some form of chemistry/biological science
• 5+ years editorial experience and/or book publisher experience in some capacity
• Sales and/or marketing experience is a plus
• Must have experience with Excel, MS Word, etc.

This position could be filled by a current Acquisition Editor from the scientific textbook world, but could also be filled by a person that comes from textbook marketing or sales and is seeking to move into an acquisition editor role.
