Our Client is seeking a Director of Publishing to manage their Medical Journal program. This is a NEW position created via expansion.

This person will:

Have complete oversight of Medical oriented Journal with a 15,000 + subscriber base
Have Prudent and Proactive management style to achieve the journals strategic goals
Oversee a team of 3-5 people including the Editor- in-Chief, Editorial Board and authors
Have experience working with peer review journal programs
Manage performance, development, hiring and training of editorial team
Develop and manage Journal relationships with affiliated societies
Manage editorial budget and meet business plan objectives and targets
Establish and Track key results areas for the journal
Support the efforts of the EiC in establishing editorial policies, strategies, goals and schedules
Champion the introduction of new product ideas and the development of planned, strategic growth
Assist in planning and organizing CME (Continuing Medical Education) activities
Consistently monitor and enhance the journals OnLine presence
Serve as key liaison between the society and the journals print and electronic publishers
Have an understanding of key issues facing Society Publishers today (both print and electronic issues)
Have a flexible travel schedule that could be as limited as 6-8 trips/year, or much more if preferred

Qualifications needed are:

Graduate degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related fields
Proven leadership ability, editorial instinct and business savvy
Previous management experience (ideal from the editorial arena)
Strong written and oral communication skills
Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
An ability to function well in a political environment
Management or Editorial experience in the STM (Scientific, Technical & Medical) publishing world

Our Client needs an Acquisition Editor for Undergrad and Grad level Sociology Books

This person will

Ideally be on site in Southern CA, but off site candidates will be considered
Acquire mid, upper and some grad level textbook and ancillaries
Have an acquisition goal ranging from $3.5 - $4 Million/year
This person will acquire 8-12 new books and 7-8 revisions/year
Research new book ideas, champion proposals, negotiate contracts
Be able to develop P&L projections and competitive analysis for presentations
Work closely and frequently with authors via phone, email and face to face
Manage internal and external reviews of draft manuscripts
Be familiar with current types/uses of ancillary electronic/multi-media materials
Have an interest in or experience in Sociology and/or related areas
